What drew you to the world of college admission counseling?
I was inspired by an incredible mentor during my time as a student ambassador at Savannah State University (GA). She taught me that advocating for students is a labor of love, especially when they lack a voice in the policies that impact them. I vividly remember the first student I advocated for — a girl with a low GPA but outstanding test scores. I saw her potential and told my director, “It’s me or the student. How can we make this work?”

What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is helping students turn their dreams into reality. I feel a special joy when I see a student who will be the first in their family to attend college. As a first-generation student myself, this passion drives me to make the path to higher education a little smoother for others every day.

How has NACAC played a role in your career?
NACAC has been an invaluable resource for my advocacy work at both the national and local levels. As co-chair for Georgia Legislative Day through SACAC, the NACAC team has provided essential insights into legislation affecting students, as well as guidance on state-level changes. I’ve also served on a committee focused on understanding student mental health during the transition to college.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
I think the biggest challenge in our profession today is DEI being used as negative word when it was always meant to open doors for those who never had them opened for them.

When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
Outside of work you can find me playing with my puppy, reading, or adding to my collection of Crocs!

What five words would you use to describe yourself?
Passionate, straightforward, team player, reliable, and trustworthy.
