Senior Admission Counselor

What drew you to the world of college admission counseling?
I knew in college I wanted to work with college students. The impact that faculty and staff had on me throughout my undergraduate career left a mark on me and I wanted the opportunity to pass that onto others. As a first-gen student, this specific profession gave me the chance to be for current students what I needed through the admissions process. I wanted to make an impact, and in this world — I can.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the joy on students’ faces when they have submitted a college application they might otherwise have not have, been admitted, confirmed, or anything in between. A small milestone for some might be the biggest milestone for others and they all matter. Seeing a student accomplish something knowing I played even a little part in that joy makes everything worth it.
How has NACAC played a role in your career?
NACAC has been a place of learning and advocacy for me. I am extremely passionate about college access and NACAC has taught me how to advocate for myself and students in all types of spaces. Specifically, I have been empowered each time I have attended Guiding the Way to Impact and have left with a variety of different ways to assist my students and make our profession a better place.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
I think one of the biggest challenges in our profession currently is the question of the value of a college degree. With higher amounts of students looking to pursue trades and with entry-level positions asking for prior experience, students question whether spending time and money to get a degree is worth it. We have to show them that a college degree is more than just a piece of paper. There is also value in the experience, the connections, and the home you will find on our campuses.
When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading all types of books, being outside (especially near a lake or doing water sports), and bingeing Netflix documentaries.
What five words would you use to describe yourself?
Perseverant. Dedicated. Compassionate. Hard-Working. Adventurous.
