What drew you to the world of college admission counseling?
I have always enjoyed working with students, seeing the “lightbulb moments” as they learn and develop new ideas, and helping to guide them along the way to their future. Developing my skills as a counselor helps me to share more information with students so they can make the best decisions for their university studies. Based in Australia, I started advising about the options here before adding New Zealand as another great study destination.

What is your favorite part of the job?
The students! I love hearing all of their ideas for the future, what they want to study, jobs they want to do, goals, and dreams. It doesn’t feel like work or just a job when I know there is a student relying on the information I can provide.

How has NACAC played a role in your career?
NACAC has been incredibly valuable for networking and resources. I took the college counseling online course and learned so much — especially about financial aid! Having this large network of colleagues in the field helps me in knowing that I can reach out for advice or support as needed.

I also look forward to sharing more with other members about university options in Australia and New Zealand. My primary focus is international school students coming to study here, so I advise students and provide resources for counselors about Australia and New Zealand as study destinations.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
Navigating all of the different options for students around the world. Our profession brings students from all areas, exploring higher education options in all areas together with counselors trying to understand it all. Global affairs can make such a difference, as students shift their interest and university opportunities open up in other locations. It’s a challenge for counselors to keep up with the best options for students.

When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
Travel (for fun!), get out on the water on any kind of boat, and walk the dog on the beach.

What five words would you use to describe yourself?
Global, active, patient, funny, and (surprisingly) introverted.
