General
In recognition of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month this April, the National Association for College Admission Counseling Women Empowering Women Special Interest Group invites women across the college admissions and access profession—including admissions, high school counseling, CBO, IEC, and vendor spaces—to join the Women Empowering Women SIG April Webinar: Addressing Sexual Harassment in Professional Spaces.
Sexual harassment continues to impact professionals across workplace settings and professional associations. Women are disproportionately affected, with national data showing that a majority of women experience some form of sexual harassment during their careers. These experiences can influence career advancement, professional confidence, and long-term participation in the field.
This webinar will provide space for a direct conversation about an issue that is often difficult to address openly.
Led by four women in the field, including WEW Board Co-Chair, Yvonne Espinoza, CEP, and WEW Research Chair, Sunny Park Suh, this session will review findings from a national survey conducted within the profession. The results reflect patterns seen more broadly and highlight experiences that occur in both workplace environments and association spaces such as conferences.
Guest speakers, Annie Knox, Title IX Coordinator, and Jalina Najera, Director of Human Resources, will provide an overview of relevant policies, including Title IX and Title VII. They will explain definitions, available options, and processes when concerns arise. The session will also address how to navigate power dynamics in different professional settings.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of protections to consider, along with practical bystander strategies that can be used to support themselves and others in professional environments.
Please join us Thursday, April 23 from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM ET.
Please note that this webinar will not be recorded, and AI notetakers will not be permitted in order to preserve a safe space for honest conversation.
