NACAC’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission
NACAC’s Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission reflects the association’s long-standing commitment to principled conduct among professionals who support students in the college transition process from secondary school to postsecondary education and in the transfer process between postsecondary institutions.
August 2025: An updated Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission is available! Recent updates address two areas:
- Early Decision – Language in the ED agreement has been made more specific to promote greater transparency for all parties. The updates aim to ensure applicants, parents / guardians, and counselors fully understand the implications of an ED commitment under various possible scenarios. NACAC strongly recommends that colleges and universities include this clarified language on their websites.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) – New guidance encourages members to consider the ethical use of AI in all aspects of their work. The statement acknowledges the increasing role of AI in multiple areas of the admissions process and responds to member questions by making clear that the topic has been discussed and thoughtfully considered.
