Jennifer Fichamba
College & Career Guidance Specialist
Eastlake High School – Sammamish Washington (WA)

What drew you to the world of college admission counseling?
To be honest, I started as an instructional aid. When the opportunity to be a college and career guidance specialist became available, my assistant principal recommended I apply because she felt my skill set and relationships with young people would be a great fit. Twenty-two years later I am grateful that she saw this!

What is your favorite part of the job?
My students! They are inspiring and I love when I see it click when they discover their potential.

What prompted you to join NACAC and what do you hope to get out of your membership?
I am new to being a member of NACAC but have been a member of PNACAC for many years. The resources, community, and conferences help to guide my work as well as inspire me to try new ideas!

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
The uncertainty of the burden of cost on our young people. I appreciate how colleges are working to find ways to give access to our young people without burdening them with huge financial debt.

When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
I love the outdoors. I am a true PNW girl. You can find me at the beach most often. I also love to bake and spend time with family and friends.

If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
Winifred “Winnie” Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. Winnie is the eldest sister and is a smart leader while also being a bit goofy!
