Improving College Access Through Character Development Programming
This paper from the Character Focus Initiative provides insights from an innovative collaboration between K-12 partners and community-based organizations to develop and pilot an outdoor character development program to prepare students for college access and success. Findings suggest that this type of programming can positively influence student preferences for some character skills including teamwork, resilience, self-control, and intellectual engagement. Collaborators discuss the importance of these programs, and how consideration of character attributes creates a more equitable and holistic admissions process.
