What drew you to the world of college admission counseling?
My experience in high school drew me to the world of college admission counseling. During my own high school journey, I did not have someone dedicated to guiding me through the college admissions and postsecondary planning process. I received minimal support, and my mom, while incredibly supportive of my siblings’ and my aspirations, had limited knowledge about college, financial aid, and the many steps involved in pursuing higher education.

I watched my oldest sister attend a community college and my next-oldest sister attend a four-year institution. They navigated their respective journeys like the true bosses they are, learning along the way and finding their own paths forward. Watching them — and experiencing my own journey — made me realize how valuable it is for students and families to have someone who can provide guidance, encouragement, and clarity during such an important transition.

I want to be the person I needed when I was in high school: someone who can help students and families understand their options, navigate unfamiliar territory, ask the right questions, and feel empowered to pursue their goals after graduation. My experiences have shaped not only my interest in college admission counseling, but also my commitment to making the journey to postsecondary education more informed and supportive for the students and families that I serve.

What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of my job is making a difference in students’ lives. Whether it’s taking a student on a college tour, walking them through the FAFSA process, or simply being there to provide support and guidance, I value the opportunity to walk alongside students during such an important part of their lives. Being able to make their journey a little easier, provide encouragement, and help them navigate the process — if they allow me to be part of it — is what makes this work so meaningful to me. It’s hard work but it’s heart work.❤️

How has NACAC played a role in your career?
NACAC has played a role in my career by giving me access to information, resources, and professional development opportunities that continue to expand my knowledge and strengthen my skills. Being a part of NACAC helps me feel connected to a larger professional community.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
I think one of the biggest challenges facing our profession today is whether people see the value in a degree, certificate, etc. We are living in a time where people are striving to go viral every single day. There is nothing wrong with going viral but that is not everyone’s story. I think that when we stop learning we do ourselves a disservice.

When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling and immersing myself in whatever place I find myself in. I love getting lost in a good book and escaping into whatever story has captured my attention. I also enjoy writing, dancing, making fresh-pressed juice, and practicing yoga. Most of all, I’m a huge lover of family gatherings and cherish every moment we get to spend together.

What five words would you use to describe yourself?
Kind-Hearted. Radiant. Passionate. Poetic. Persistent.
