Special Episode: "Fight for What Doesn’t Fit: Celebrating Students’ Identities, Interests, and Unique Qualities"

In this special episode, Jabari Sellars calls on college counselors and admission professionals to “fight for what doesn’t fit” when it comes to student applicants who offer unique identities, interests, and qualities. Recorded at NACAC’s national conference in September 2019, Sellars’ speech brought the audience to its feet in appreciation for his perspective on today’s Gen Z students and the role that educators can play in challenging the preconceptions and stereotypes that prevent us from seeing and valuing students as they truly are.

Sellars is a middle and high school humanities teacher at the Sienna School in Silver Spring (MD). This episode is introduced by Jayne Caflin Fonash, president of NACAC.
