NACAC Urges Flexibility for Students Impacted by Teachers’ Strike

NACAC urges colleges and universities to be flexible when considering application deadlines, requests for high school transcripts, teacher recommendations, and other information from students who may be affected by teacher strikes across the country.

West Virginia teachers are the latest to strike. Unions in the state called a statewide walkout on Feb. 19 over complicated education legislation that they view as lacking their input and as retaliation for last year's strike. How long this one goes on will be a day-to-day decision, union leaders said.

More teacher strikes are likely in the coming months. We encourage colleges and universities to keep students’ impacted in mind as they move through the application process.
