Arlington, VA (March 23, 2020) — A new tool from the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) provides a look at admission-related services offered by secondary schools in the US and around the globe amid the coronavirus pandemic.
With so many schools closed or otherwise disrupted, it's a challenge for counselors to help students finalize their college plans. NACAC’s new tool shows how different schools and counselors are responding to questions surrounding final course grades, requests for transcripts, and other college admission queries.
The crowdsourced resource is the second of two tools designed by NACAC. The College Admission Status Update was introduced last week and focuses on postsecondary institutions. It catalogs campus-specific changes in college admission events, deposit dates, and more as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
The new tool focuses on secondary schools and shows how counselors are assisting students during this unprecedented time of upheaval. Community-based organizations that help students navigate the college admission process may also add their status to this tool. The resource will update automatically in real time as NACAC receives responses.
“Counselors around the world are going above and beyond to serve students, but with so many secondary schools closed or otherwise disrupted, that work is challenging to say the least,” said NACAC President Jayne Caflin Fonash. “We hope this new tool can help secondary school counselors inform their college counterparts about the unique circumstances at their various schools.”
