I can’t believe July 15, 2022 marks my 2nd anniversary as NACAC CEO. It feels like I just wrote you a letter on my first day, sharing my genuine excitement and intentions for the organization, while acknowledging the challenges for the journey ahead.
Early in my tenure I embarked on a listening tour, where I heard about your wishes for the association to be more nimble, responsive, and forward-thinking. You asked NACAC to rise up to meet the urgent needs of the college admission counseling profession, and to move fearlessly in bold new directions.
Informed by the recommendations of the CEO Listening Tour and the Recommendations of the Ad-Hoc on Leadership in College Admission, the NACAC Board and staff have worked with intention to deliver on the promise of evolving the organization to meet the needs of our members today.
Two years later, we are a different organization. Our membership has grown from 14,000 to more than 25,000. We have a new mission and vision, and recent changes in governance have led to more inclusivity, greater member involvement, and the most diverse board in NACAC’s history. We have boldly influenced higher education policy and created new programming to meet the needs of today’s counseling professionals. We navigated a pandemic and financial crisis. Our passion for advancing equity in college admission inspired major funders, such as the Gates and Lumina foundations, to select NACAC to lead new initiatives.
At NACAC, our bias is toward action, and I know we’re only getting started. There is still much work to do, and there are challenges to overcome. We do this work with transparency, inclusivity, and optimism, as I highlighted in an article I wrote about how to succeed in tumultuous times.
There is more I want to tell you, but I will save it for one of my favorite events of the year: The State of The Association. I hope you will register for the conference and join me for this time when I will share exciting updates - including a new website, a new NACAC logo, and a new membership engagement platform. You won’t want to miss it!
Even though this marks my 2nd anniversary as CEO, my passion and optimism for NACAC is rooted in years of commitment and service to the profession. We are shifting the landscape together, and I’m grateful for your voice and involvement.
I hope to see you in Houston!
