Messages from the CEO

April 6, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

Today I am very pleased to announce exciting new opportunities for NACAC members to engage in the vital work of our association. The Board of Directors is launching four new ad hoc committees that will tackle timely and urgent issues, and we invite volunteers to serve on each.

For more than a year, we have been preparing to replace certain NACAC standing committees with a new process involving short-term and high-impact projects that could enlist a wide range of members. As we heard from the Ad Hoc Committee on Leadership in College Admission as well as participants in the CEO’s 2020 Listening Tour, members are asking for more engagement, transparency, and inclusiveness in the association's programs and decision-making.

Each of the new ad hoc committees will have up to 20 members chosen for their expertise and interest in the respective topic. An online application process will ask members about their qualifications and allow them to choose the committees they would like to join. Volunteers will account for most of the positions on the rosters, but a few committee members may be appointed to provide special expertise in subject areas.

The focus areas for the ad hocs are as follows:

NACAC President Todd Rinehart will approve the final rosters and chairs, in consultation with the NACAC Board of Directors. The names of any volunteers not selected will remain in a database for future NACAC committees or initiatives.

Those selected for the committees will be notified in late May, and the first meetings will be held in June. Most committee members will be asked to serve for 6-9 months with the option of extending the committee’s work, if necessary. Given the urgency of the issues associated with reimagining the NACAC-Affiliate relationship, including decisions about the future of the Assembly and the role of delegates, that committee will work on an accelerated timeline.

Progress reports will be presented during the 2021 NACAC National Conference in September. At the conclusion of the ad hocs’ work in early 2022, we will launch new committees with a call for new volunteers.

Onward!
