Arlington, VA (Jan. 21, 2021) – The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) congratulates Dr. Miguel Cardona on his nomination to serve as the next US Secretary of Education.
“Dr. Cardona’s experience and advocacy as a public school educator and leader gives me great hope for the future of public education in America,” said NACAC CEO Angel B. Pérez, noting that President-elect Biden stated during the presidential campaign that he would nominate a candidate who had public school experience. “We look forward to Dr. Cardona’s confirmation and to working with the Biden administration on recommitting our nation to equitable education policy.”
Dr. Cardona is a first-generation college graduate and a strong advocate for public higher education, with experience in implementing programs connecting high schools and colleges in pursuit of greater college access and success, one of NACAC’s chief policy priorities.
As an association, NACAC is committed to ensuring its policies and practices protect students against predatory institutions, support students transitioning from high school to college, provide equity in K-12 and higher education funding, and above all, restore the foundation of higher education as a public good.
The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), founded in 1937, is an organization of nearly 14,000 professionals from around the world dedicated to serving students as they make choices about pursuing postsecondary education.
