With the start of the new year, NACAC urges support and flexibility for students, families, and counselors throughout our country who have been affected by catastrophic weather events, the uncertainty of the Omicron variant, and other school-related challenges.
Our colleagues in Kentucky continue to recover after devastating tornadoes last month in the western part of the state. Students affected by the Marshall Fire in Colorado on Dec. 30, which destroyed hundreds of homes and left many homeless, are scheduled to return to school Jan. 5. The contagious nature of COVID and the Omicron variant has delayed the start of the semester for many institutions.
We encourage secondary and postsecondary institutions to extend deadlines and counseling hours as needed as our colleagues work to support their students and rebuild their communities.
