Reginald “Reggie” Onyido
Senior Associate Dean of Admission/Acting Director for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Juniata College (PA)
What drew you to the world of college admission counseling?
I never wanted to be an admission counselor growing up. I remember a moment after earning my bachelor’s and applying for graduate school that I made the connection between how/why I made the decision to attend my undergraduate institution and the influencers in my life at such a critical time (my mother, my siblings, my college admission counselor). I desired to walk alongside students and their families through their college journey.
What is your favorite part of the job?
Developing relationships with students/families through the admission process and keeping in touch with students after graduation. Seeing their success.
How has NACAC played a role in your career?
I have had the opportunity to network and engage with individuals from across the world in support of students.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
Information and technology. Students today are engaging with colleges and universities in new ways: Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, virtual tours. As technology advances, institutions must adapt to meet the needs of college-bound students (and their families).
When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
I enjoy being outdoors and being active. I’m a girl dad and adore playing doctor with my daughters and creating stories for them to act out.
What five words would you use to describe yourself?
Ambitious. Honest. Joyful. Organized. Sincere.
