How did you get your start in the admission field?
A friend of mine asked if I wanted to give it a shot. First assignment was a reception in Hawaii. Seemed like a good decision and it turns out it was.
What is your favorite part of the job?
I really enjoy the people I have worked with through the years. Admission professionals tend to have certain characteristics; they are passionate, outgoing, sincere, and fun. Working with these types of people creates a professional balance that I enjoy.
How has NACAC played a role in your career?
NACAC has been essential in helping build my professional support system while serving as a recourse for information needed to effectively do my job. It’s hard to imagine success in admission without partnering with NACAC.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
In my opinion there are two major challenges -- relevance and affordability. We need to be intentional and consistent about promoting the benefits of higher education. At the same time we need to continue to streamline our own operations and scale back on spending while committing to affordability for students.
When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
My wife, Dana, and I love a good adventure. Usually that includes traveling and the outdoors. I also love golf and most racquet sports.
If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
Clark Griswold. He tends to find the positive in most situations and innovatively navigates through life’s challenges.
