Katie Konrad Moore
Collegewise – Northwest
What led you to this field?
I love working with teenagers and I loved working in the admission office at my alma mater, Colgate University (NY), so I was thrilled when I got the job as a college counselor at Collegewise in 2004. After my first three weeks in the job, I knew I had found my forever work home.
What is your favorite part of the job?
Helping students brainstorm essays. So many of them don’t spend much time thinking about their place in the world or how to explain themselves and their stories to others. I love being able to hold up a mirror and show them a little bit more about just how interesting they really are.
What drew you to NACAC?
With so many different types of colleges, high schools, and organizations, I like having NACAC to bring us together in the interest of serving students better.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing counselors today?
Keeping track of all of the increasing complexities in college admission so they can distill it into a manageable process for students.
When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
Hang out with my 5-year-old, drink beer, and take walks (ideally all at the same time).
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
Winnie the Pooh
Describe yourself in five words.
Authentic, flexible, positive, organized, and disarming.
