Senior Director of High School Programs
Breakthrough Greater Boston (MA)
What drew you to college access work?
My first job after college was in college admission. While that was the best first job ever, it also exposed me to the stark contrast of resources and support that are available to students across different high schools and from different backgrounds. It felt like a natural next step to seek out a role that gives me a chance every day to work with students who don’t necessarily have access to the same kinds of resources as their peers.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part is getting to know students over a six-year (or more!) period. Students join Breakthrough in sixth grade, and we support them through middle and high school. We prioritize building a strong community, so alumni stay in touch long after they head to college. Seeing students grow over that amount of time is so energizing!
How does NACAC play a role in your career?
NACAC serves as a great connector with others in the field who are working with students as they prepare for and apply for college. It’s also a great source of professional development opportunities for members of our staff and for me.
When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
I love to read and bake, and I’d love to make more time for both. My husband and I also just bought a house, so hopefully I learn I like yard work and gardening!
If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
Hermione Granger – I love that she doesn’t hide her intellect and is who she is unapologetically.
Describe yourself in five words.
