Associate Director for Operations, Undergraduate Admissions
Texas Tech University
What drew you to the world of college admission?
I was a tour guide in college and loved recruiting for Texas Tech. After I graduated from college, I knew I wanted to work at Tech and recruitment was something I loved. I started off as an admissions counselor eight years ago and then fell in love with college admission. I have stayed in college admission, because I believe an educated world will create a better future for all of us.
What is your favorite part of the job?
Working with the students. The best days are the days where I get to help a student become admitted to Texas Tech. There is not greater feeling than telling a student they’ve been admitted.
How has NACAC played a role in your career?
NACAC has played a role in my professional development through the colleagues, high school counselors, and strategic enrollment partners I have met. This organization has allowed me to connect with professionals who are experts in this field and have great knowledge on the challenges we face.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing our profession today?
I believe one of the greatest challenges is the rising cost of education and student debt. This is already scaring many students and is a deciding factor if a student can attend an institute of higher education. I think as admission professionals we have to be thinking of the way we are recruiting these students. We must meet students where they are and tailor our messaging to them.
When you aren’t working, what do you like to do?
I am a spin and barre instructor. I love to work out and have a passion for fitness. Being in a college town, I enjoy attending the athletic events and supporting the university. When I get the chance, I love to travel with friends and family.
If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
Katniss Everdeen. She is a strong woman who fights for what she believes in and what is right.
Describe yourself in five words.
Dedicated. Persistent. Diplomatic. Charismatic. Funny.
