Message from GNC Chair, Nancy Beane

Nancy BeaneThe 2018-2019 Governance and Nominating Committee is beginning the process of identifying highly qualified candidates for the slate of nominees for the NACAC Board of Directors who will be elected in 2019. This is a task that the members of the Governance and Nominating Committee take very seriously, and it calls for dedicated attention from the members, the committee and NACAC staff.  As the committee begins work on this task we are committed to creating a strong and diverse pool of member leaders to ensure that the slate includes nominees with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. 

Former committee member Kevin Dyerly accurately expresses the feelings of GNC members with the following comment: “The GNC is truly motivated to attract and cultivate a diverse and talented representation of member leaders who will strengthen the range of perspectives and experiences on the NACAC Board if elected. Serving on the GNC was deeply fulfilling as we witnessed the fruits of our labor each fall with the election of such leaders from across our organization who will no doubt have an impact on moving NACAC forward in the coming years.

This year, there are four positions to be filled by election of the Assembly in Louisville, KY: three board directors and the president-elect.  Board directors serve for a term of three years.  The president-elect serves the three-year presidential cycle, followed by an additional year as chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.  Any voting NACAC member who meets eligibility requirements may submit their application for the Governance and Nominating Committee to consider for a place on the slate of nominees. There are a variety of ways a member can be considered eligible – whether that be service on a national or affiliate committee, as an affiliate president, as an Assembly delegate, or as NACAC professional development program facilitator or faculty.

Whatever form that prior service takes, the Governance and Nominating Committee seeks NACAC members who have shown a strong commitment to the admission and counseling profession and have served affiliates, the national Association or the admission profession through substantive leadership roles.  Our goal is to present a slate of nominees that is representative of the diversity of our membership, which is why multiple types of leadership are considered.

Individuals interested in being considered as candidates for the 2019 NACAC Board of Directors election must meet qualifications described in the Call for Candidates: 2019 Board of Directors Election Information. All applicants must complete the Application, which includes the Candidate Biographical Information Form, the Candidate Reference Form and the Candidate Statement of Institutional Support Form. Please note that applications and supporting documents are due to February 1, 2019. All forms and procedures are outlined on the NACAC web site. The Governance and Nominating Committee will then review all the applications and select the slate of nominees at their committee meeting in March.

Service on the NACAC Board provides unparalleled experiences for personal and professional growth, in addition to an opportunity to provide direction to the profession and our association.  Many former board members describe their service as a professional highlight.  I urge you to seriously consider the contributions that you might make as a member of our Board of Directors.
