Why AMMI?
Middle managers are the foundation of today’s admission office. Recently described as the “Jacks and Jills of all things recruitment,” effective middles bridge the gap between routine office responsibilities and the demands of senior enrollment executives. The versatility of their roles—from college fair attendance to number crunching—is unparalleled. Unfortunately, training opportunities for middle managers are typically limited to the confines of the office.

About the Workshop
Join your middle management counterparts in Toronto for candid discussion, case studies and brass tacks advice. You should also plan to check the conjecture at the door, as the conversations at AMMI are open and honest—providing a friendly forum for middles to communicate with colleagues and thought leaders in the field. While only a day and a half in length, AMMI attendees frequently attest to the career-long connections fostered at the workshop.

Educational Sessions
  • Strategic Planning for Middle Managers
Over the last two decades, the concept of enrollment management has drastically evolved. In today’s competitive marketplace, it entails more than simply coordinating the efforts of admissions and financial aid professionals on a given campus; it is a comprehensive approach that every institution needs to globally embrace to reach its enrollment goals. This session will focus more on the overall strategic planning components to effectively reach an institution’s enrollment targets, placing specific emphasis on how middle managers can influence and actively participate in this process.
  • Budget Management
Even in today’s constantly evolving admission landscape, middle managers cannot afford to neglect the fundamentals. This session will explore the most vital elements of budget administration from the middle manager’s perspective. Attendees will learn about budgeting as a management tool, the concepts of zero and incremental budgeting, and effective strategies for budgeting amidst difficult economic circumstances. The session will conclude with a case study to reinforce key takeaways from the presentation.
  • Leadership and Staff Management
Effective leadership rests at the core of any successful admission office. This session will provide an in-depth overview of leadership and management for admission middle managers in a supervisory capacity. The presentation will focus on the middle manager’s role daily office operations, ways in which to set realistic expectations for yourself and your staff, strategies for dealing with challenging personnel issues, "managing your manager" and much more.
  • Using Technology to Solve Modern Admission Problems
Technology touches all aspects of the modern admission office. As such, it should comprise an integral part of the solution-set for all middle management problem-solving; both new complications presented by emerging technologies and old processes in need of retooling. This session will be broken into three parts; technology for internal communication/process management, technology to communicate with students/parents, and leveraging social media. Accordingly, middle managers will gain a fresh perspective as to how they can utilize technological resources in the admission process.
  • Exploring Salary and Benefits: It’s Not What You Need, It’s What You Require
Many of us accept new employment or counteroffers without fully understanding the impact on the quality of life afforded by the level of our salaries and benefits. In this interactive session, we will cover resources available to help you make strategic and thoughtful decisions during the most important part of any employment change. We will take a deep dive into the world of negotiations and how to navigate these sensitive, but highly important, opportunities to increase the chances of being awarded with the total compensation you require. As a point of reference, attendees are encouraged to review their institution’s salary chart and benefits websites.
  • Roundtable Conversation
Two separate panels - one consisting of newer deans and directors of admission, and the other featuring veteran deans and directors. Get all of your admission and enrollment questions answered here!
