A report from The Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher Education highlights promising transfer practices at six community colleges in Texas. The six colleges were selected based on an analysis of the transfer rates of low-income and first-generation students, and site visits were conducted to learn more about best practices that led to these results. The authors conclude that three over-arching qualities of these college climates led to their success—a structured academic pathway, a student-centered culture, and a culturally-sensitive leadership.
