AMMI Biographies of Directors and Faculty

Directors

Gregory V. MacDonald
Greg graduated from Carleton University (Ottawa, Ont) in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Sociology and History.  He completed his Master of Science in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs in 1993 at Syracuse University (NY).

Carleton University provided his first professional admission counseling position.  Following graduate study, Greg accepted an admission position at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (OH).  During his six years at Case (1993-1999), Greg held a variety of posts on his way to becoming Associate Director in 1998.  The opportunity to move to the University of Rochester as Associate Director came in 1999. Greg served as Director of Admission at the University of Rochester (NY) from 2002 to 2005.  In July 2005, Greg became the executive director of MBA admissions and administration at the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester (NY).  In his current position, he oversees the offices of admission, student services and registrar.

Greg has been a regular presenter at state and national conferences since 1995.  He has done consulting work for the Cleveland Scholarship Commission, and served as a faculty member for College Exploration Experience program for the past five years. Greg is a 1999 graduate of AMMI, and 2002 graduate of the program for new directors, MECA.

Robert G. Springall
Rob is Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Central Florida (UCF). At UCF, he is responsible for all recruitment and marketing activities at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management campus, and research and assessment efforts for all undergraduate admission programs.

Prior to joining the UCF staff in 2004, Rob spent four years as the director of admission for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University (NY). In addition to his college duties, Rob also served on the University's Undergraduate Enrollment Planning Team and Athletic Admission Advisory Group. At Cornell, he was also associate director of admissions and transfer coordinator at the College of Engineering (1997-2000). Rob has worked in admission at the University of Vermont and Rochester Institute of Technology (NY) as well.

He earned a master’s degree in higher education from the University of South Carolina in 1996 and a bachelor's degree in computer science from RIT in 1992.

This is Rob's fifth year as an AMMI faculty member, and his second as institute co-director. He was a student at the 1999 AMMI session at the NACAC National Conference in Orlando.

Faculty

Nicole Curvin
Nicole Curvin earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature (1990) from Wesleyan University (CT). Her first exposure to working in higher education came when she was hired as the Assistant to the Dean of Continuing Education at the University of Vermont (UVM).  In 1996, Nicole was hired as an Assistant Director of Admissions at UVM.  She coordinated multicultural recruitment, recruited for the environmental studies programs and assisted with on-campus programming.

Nicole left UVM to pursue graduate study at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where she earned an Ed.M in higher education (2000). Her coursework included a focus on widening access to college for underserved populations. While pursuing her degree, she worked as a career assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Office of Career Services.

After graduate school, Nicole opted to work in academic advising at Parsons The New School for Design (NY) to learn more about other aspects of student services.

Nicole also worked as the Associate Director of Admissions at New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. She managed the undergraduate application process for adults returning to college.

Nicole currently serves as Director of Admissions at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts (NY). She oversees strategic planning, budget management and marketing for the program. 

Ron W. Moss
Ron has been involved in college admission and enrollment management for 30 years.  After beginning his career at Texas Christian University in admission and development roles, he served for 12 years as director of admission at Rice University (TX) before arriving at Southern Methodist University (TX) in 1993, where he currently serves as dean of admission and executive director of enrollment services. 

Along with serving on several SMU academic and enrollment committees, he has served on numerous state and national professional committees and boards including most recently President of the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC), and the Executive Board of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).  Within NACAC, he has served as a member of the Legacy Campaign Fund for the Future, Conference Planning, and Nominating committees.

Additionally, he is the Director of the National Institute on College Admission sponsored by TACAC.  Currently, he serves as a member of the National Guidance and Admission Assembly of The College Board, and is immediate past-Chairperson of the Executive Council of the Southwest Region of The College Board, where he served two terms as Chair of the Nominating Committee. Ron was also recently appointed to the NACAC Journal of College Admission Editorial Board.

In addition to serving on several national advisory boards, including America’s Junior Miss, The College Digest, The Common Application, and The College Guide, he serves on numerous scholarship selection committees.

He has published numerous articles in national professional publications and serves as a Research Fellow at the University of North Texas, where he earned his doctorate in Higher Education and Educational Administration.

Lori A. Zawistowski
Lori Zawistowski currently serves as the Interim Dean of Admission and Enrollment Management at Loyola University New Orleans (LA).  A 1994 graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile (AL) with a degree in international business and a minor in economics, Lori also has a MBA from the University of South Alabama.

Upon graduation from college, Lori joined Spring Hill College as an Admissions Counselor (1994-1995), an Assistant Director (1996-1997), and as an Associate Director (1997-2000).  

In August 2000, Lori moved to the Big Easy to work at Loyola University New Orleans (LA).  As associate director, Lori’s responsibilities involved coordinating all special events, staff supervision, and travel coordination.  Promoted to Senior Associate Director of Admission in August 2002, Lori was responsible for supervision of the recruitment processes and staff, which includes a Northeast Regional Representative (New York City), a Western Regional Representative (Los Angeles), a Mid-Atlantic Regional Representative (DC) and ten additional recruiters.  She was promoted to Director of Admission for Recruitment and Marketing in 2003.

Lori has previously served as a faculty member for the Southern ACAC’s Dry Run Workshop and was a former co-chair of the SACAC Mentorship Program.  She is currently a SACAC Delegate.  She has been a faculty member with the Admission Middle Management Institute since 2003.  She participated in the 1997 AMMI session in Lake Tahoe.

Amy R. Smith
Amy is Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission at Vanderbilt University (TN).  She has been at Vanderbilt University (TN) since 1997. Currently she leads the team that creates all publications and marketing in Undergraduate Admission, while also chairing one admission committee and supervising five staff members in planning travel for their assigned territories.

Amy started at Vanderbilt University (TN) as an Admission Counselor in 1997.  She has had the opportunity to act as a liaison to many different campus groups such as the Blair School of Music, Hillel, and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Religion and Biblical Literature from Smith College (MA) in 1997.

This is Amy’s first year on faculty for AMMI. She participated in the program at the Long Beach, California, NACAC conference in 2003.
