NACAC Member Action

Members in Action

NACAC members advocate for students at the federal, state, and local level. Here are some examples:

Southern ACAC sent a letter to North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue in support of the Career and College Promise initiative, which guarantees that eligible high school students (those with a 3.0 GPA meeting other requirements) can earn college credit or valuable job skills, tuition-free as juniors and seniors in the college transfer and technical education pathways. All North Carolina public colleges and universities, as well as many private colleges, are partners. The program consolidates existing dual-enrollment programs. SACAC Government Relations Committee Chair Sarah Katherine Drury (right) coordinated the effort.

New York State ACAC carried out their annual rolodex project to establish and maintain relationships with the state legislature. NACAC Government Relations Committee Chair and NYSACAC Government Relations Committee Co-Chair Susan Davidson (left) and NYSACAC Government Relations Committee Co-Chair Brian Loew organized members of the NYSACAC Executive Board and Government Relations Committee to send holiday cards and letters to each of the 212 New York State Senators and Assemblymembers. The initiative helps the Association broaden its influence in state policymaking.

Wisconsin ACAC members represented NACAC and WACAC during a visit to the office of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett as he declared the week of October 3-9, 2011 as Milwaukee Goes to College Week. Mayor Barrett issue the proclamation in conjunction with the Milwaukee National College Fair (NCF) held that Sunday. Pictured (right) with the proclamation from left to right are Oscar Tovar of the Mayor's office; Brooke Konopacki, WACAC President; Anne Perina, NCF Co-chair; and Curt Cattanach, NCF Co-chair. Also in attendance was Connie Bennett, WACAC Secretary. WACAC Government Relations Committee Chairs Teege Mettille and Robin Hamilton helped coordinate the proclamation.

Rocky Mountain ACAC government relations committee member and Greater Phoenix National College Fair committee member Anne Lassen (left in photo) represented NACAC and RMACAC as Scottsdale (AZ) Mayor Jim Lane  (right in photo) declared the week of September 26 through October 2, 2011 as Scottsdale Goes to College Week. The Week was held in conjunction with the National College Fair held Sunday, October 2, during which 8,000 attendees met with representatives of 240 colleges and universities. RMACAC GRC Chair Ryan Burton Romero led the effort.
