About this Webinar

This Webinar is the first in a series of initiatives being carried out by NACAC’s NCAA Advisory Board and the staff of the NCAA Eligibility Center in an effort to better serve the young men and women who are interested in participating in intercollegiate athletics. It is designed for all levels of experience – from veterans to those who are new to the initial eligibility process.  Topics to be covered include:

  • A brief overview of the NCAA and the Eligibility Center
  • Amateurism and academic requirements
  • Core course review process
  • An introduction to the NEW High School Administration Web portal
  • Current trends and hot topics

Target audience: Secondary School Administrators

Objectives:  The initial eligibility certification process is most successful when responsibility is equally shared among students, families, high schools, colleges/universities, and the Eligibility Center. This Webinar will equip the participant with knowledge of the nuts-and-bolts of initial eligibility, as well as with an understanding of the roles that each respective party plays throughout the process.

Presenters:
Mike Goldberger, Director of Athletics
Brown University, RI
Mike Goldberger has worked for more than three decades at Brown University.  During his time at Brown he has served as an assistant football coach, assistant baseball coach, Director of Admission, and currently serves at the Director of Athletics.  Mike graduated from Middlebury college with a degree in History  Prior to his work at Brown, Mike taught mathematics at a Vermont secondary school.

Lisa Mills, Director of High School Review
NCAA Eligibility Center, IN
Lisa Mills is the Director of High School Review at the NCAA Eligibility Center, a position she has held since early 2007.  Prior to the creation of the EC, Lisa worked in Membership Services at the National Office for nine years.  Lisa is responsible for oversight of core-course review and the review of high school programs. Lisa began her tenure with the NCAA as a membership services representative in January 1998.  Prior to coming to the NCAA, Lisa spent 10 years as a secondary English teacher and gymnastics coach in Minnesota.  She originally hails from North Dakota, and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a bachelor's degree in English and secondary education.

Nick Sproull, Assistant Director of High School Review
NCAA Eligibility Center, IN
Nick Sproull has served as Assistant Director of High School Review at the NCAA Eligibility Center since June 2007. In this role, Nick provides leadership in the area of core-course review by working with over 29,000 high schools on establishing and maintaining lists of approved core courses. Nick came to the Eligibility Center from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis where he served as a College/Academic Advisor. Prior to that, he was a Senior Admission Counselor at Butler University.  Nick received his BA in Music with Honors from Butler University in 2002 and is currently working on his M.Ed. in K-12 and Postsecondary Leadership through Michigan State University.
