Last spring, NACAC commissioned a survey of school counselors and admission professionals to study the effects of the economy on the 2008-2009 admission process. This summer, the association followed up with a second survey designed to gauge the economy's impact on final enrollment decisions and trends. The results of both surveys were reported at NACAC’s 65th National Conference in Baltimore in an
Educational Session sponsored jointly by the Current Trends and Future Issues and Admission Practices committees. This Webinar will build on the discussion begun in Baltimore. The panel will explore the ethical implications of student and institutional behavior as families seek appropriate educational and financial matches and colleges strive to meet enrollment goals.
Target Audience: All NACAC members at any experience level will benefit from this discussion
Topics to Be Discussed: This program will address questions that arise at the front end of the application process:
- How early is too early when it comes to filing applications?
- Where is the line between encouraging students to apply and manipulating application numbers?
- How do counselors respond when families misunderstand or ignore the parameters that colleges establish in their admission processes?
Upon completion of this Webinar, participants will:
- Understand recent trends within our profession
- Recognize behavior inconsistent with NACAC's Statement of Principles of Good Practice
- Possess a framework for understanding and addressing inappropriate practices
