About the Program
GWI is designed for postsecondary admission counselors and enrollment professionals who assist underrepresented students and their families in the transition from secondary to postsecondary education. The workshop is tailored to address current multicultural and diversity issues in higher education. GWI provides in-depth understanding of the components of multicultural recruitment as they relate to the college admission profession.
NEW THIS YEAR!
GWI has been reformatted to give the same great education in a two-day format! The new program’s scheduled is:
Monday, August 2
9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
(breakfast will be held at 8:00 a.m. and an option “pay on your own” networking dinner will be organized that evening)
Tuesday, August 3
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
(breakfast will be held at 7:00 a.m.)
Attendees will benefit the most from full participation, so NACAC recommends arriving in Atlanta on Sunday evening and departing Atlanta no earlier than 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The 2010 Curriculum
GWI’s keynote and breakout sessions will feature:
- Facts about multicultural students of the millennium and where they come from
- Tips and strategies for recruiting bi-racial and multicultural applicants who may not identify with the multicultural community after admittance
- The effects of standardized admission tests and score differences on students of color
- Changes/updates affecting financial aid awards, as well as tips on assisting families as they navigate the financial aid process
- Legislative implications of the Dream Act on the recruitment and retention of undocumented students seeking admission
- Best practices for increasing enrollment for students of color, first-generation and undocumented students
- Changes within the profession prompted by the current economic atmosphere
- Suggestions for career advancement and development
- Tools to improve equity and access for all students at your institution
Who Should Participate
College admission officers with 0-5 years of experience and those who assist students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
