About the Program
GWI is a three-day professional development workshop for postsecondary admission counselors and enrollment professionals who assist underrepresented students and their families in the transition from secondary to postsecondary education. The workshop addresses current multicultural and diversity issues in higher education and provides in-depth understanding of the components of multicultural recruitment as they relate to the college admission profession.
The 2009 curriculum includes the following current and relevant topics:
- Effective multicultural recruitment in a stressed economy
- Creating and enhancing the strategic multicultural recruiting plan
- Utilizing technology in the recruitment process
- Assisting undocumented students by working with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs)
- Establishing partnerships with community colleges
- Developing cultural competency in a changing admission landscape… and more!
New this year!
Attendees will learn to build a multicultural recruitment plan and assess the effectiveness of that plan. Attendees are encouraged to bring:
- Institutional mission statements
Current diversity recruitment plans
Multicultural recruitment budgets
Details on five years of diversity enrollment numbers
Laptops to take notes and send daily logs/updates back to their director or supervisor
