 NACAC Introduces the Briefing Room

March 23, 2010 (Arlington, VA) – New data and analysis is published each year on a variety of factors that directly affect the college admission process, with much of it buried in sizable publications from federal agencies and advocacy groups. For busy professionals who want to stay abreast of the latest developments in the admission process, NACAC offers a new online resource: The Briefing Room.

When a new report is released or a new policy is enacted, the Briefing Room publishes a suite of materials to accompany the source material. Each release includes a summary of the information as it relates to college admission, as well as a series of podcasts with professionals affected by the issue. After reading the new information, users of the Briefing Room have immediate access to a cross section of the college admission and counseling communities.

The inaugural release covers a report from the Department of Education that projects high school graduation and college enrollment figures to 2018. In addition to a concise summary of the 168-page report, the Briefing Room installment provides interviews with three admission officers in strategic parts of the country. Raul Fonts, senior associate dean of admission at Providence College (RI), gives a report from the state with the lowest projected drop in graduation numbers, while Patty Avila-Porter, student access program coordinator at Truckee Meadows Community College (NV), comments on recruiting and enrollment plans in the state with the highest projected increase in graduation numbers.

NACAC considers the insights of college counselors and admission officers to be the most accurate indicators of the current college admission environment and the best forecasters of change. With the Briefing Room, you will get responses to policy, research or institutional initiatives. From public schools to private schools, counselors to admission professionals, the Briefing Room will seek insights from all around the admission desk and the nation.

NACAC’s presentation of the material comes directly from trusted sources. The pairing of summarized analysis and insightful podcasts can augment personal research initiatives and invite discussions about innovation.  The Briefing Room joins the other content distribution channels used by NACAC, but its research driven summaries and production of podcasts differs from the rapid-release posts on its social media sites.

When a new release is ready, NACAC will broadcast the update on NACAC's Admitted Blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

Visit the
Briefing Room and be a part of the national conversation about college admission, and stay connected to NACAC for periodic updates.
