NACAC Receives $52,000 TG Grant for College Admission Workshops

Arlington, VA (June 30, 2009) — The National Association for College Admission Counseling’s (NACAC’s) campaign to inspire collaboration among community members positioned to aid underrepresented and underserved students recently received a generous grant from TG, a public, non-profit corporation created by the Texas Legislature that administers the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).

TG awarded $52,268 to NACAC in support of its Guiding the Way to Higher Education: Families, Counselors & Communities Together (FCCT), which provides step-by-step instruction for all the concerned parties—counselors, families and other caregivers--in a student’s transition to college. The Five Essentials offered in the text provide the network of supporters with resources and activities that outline important aspects of college admission.

In addition to printing of the instructional materials, NACAC has planned a two-day “train the trainer” workshop for 25 counselors serving urban and rural middle and high schools in Virginia. The trained counselors will then be charged with conducting a total of 50 workshops in their own communities.

“The grant from TG will help NACAC fulfill its goal of providing counselors with helpful tools and guides to support students from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds in the college preparation, transition and admission processes,” said NACAC Chief Executive Officer Joyce Smith.

The training workshops will take place in the Richmond, VA area. For more information about the FCCT or to obtain copies, visit NACAC’s online Marketplace.
